Household Prayers for the week starting on Sunday June 3, 2017

Household Prayer: Morning

The day, O God, began

when I awakened to receive it as a gift from you.

Help me this day to measure time well,

to see each moment within the larger sweep of time.

Whether I have time on my hands

or time slips through my fingers,

I have been given this very day

to live faithfully and well.

Help me, then, to touch the beauty of creation somewhere today

and remember that I am of the earth, too.

Help me to notice the face of Christ in some person today

and remember that we are brothers and sisters to one another.

Help me to hear your glory proclaimed in song or instrument today

until my own life hums with praise and thanksgiving.

I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ,

who is the same yesterday and today and forever. Amen.

Household Prayer: Evening

Your promised gift of rest comes to me now, dear God;

help me to receive it.

Give rest to all who wait this night

in illness or anxiety or sadness.

Let your rest come to animals that burrow in the ground,

to birds that nest in branches,

to creatures that swim in depths or shallows.

Give rest and renewal to all the earth.

To those who wander and work this night,

grant rest when the morning comes.

In Christ I pray. Amen.

[or]

God of extraordinary power,

remind me in these evening shadows

that though I am afflicted,

I am not crushed;

though perplexed,

I am not left to despair;

though I may have suffered wrong,

I am not forsaken;

and that even when I am struck down,

I am not destroyed;

because the life of Christ

is alive in me.

In his strong name,

and by his light, I pray. Amen.
